Albert J. Barr has experience in all phases of civil litigation and State and Federal Courts from discovery through appeal. Broad exposure to all pretrial matters, including taking and defending Depositions, court appearances and regular participation in Motion practice. Extensive negotiation experience. Primary area of practice includes franchise law, commercial and residential real estate and environmental law. Significant emphasis on commercial negotiation and litigation of franchise documents and lease documents. Nationally known expertise in the area of Petroleum Franchise Law. Has written Amendments to the Connecticut Franchise Act and the Connecticut Underground Storage Tank Reimbursement Act.

In the last 42 years, Attorney Barr litigated, as counsel or co-counsel, hundreds of franchise cases involving many aspects of the franchising industry, including: convenience store franchises, service station franchises, SUBWAY franchises, Mortgage Service Associates franchises, Carvel franchises, Midas Muffler franchises, Dairy Queen franchises, Virginia Allen franchises, Club Sandwich franchises, Sports Stuff franchises, and numerous small franchises.

Attorney Barr litigated against all the major oil companies, including but not limited to Mobil, Amoco, Exxon, BP, Gulf, Hess, Shell and Sunoco and successors thereto. He also litigated, in either an arbitration setting or State or Federal Courts, against SUBWAY, Mortgage Service Associates, Pittsburgh Plate Glass, Virginia Allen and numerous other franchisors.

Attorney Barr represented groups of franchisees as well as individual franchise owners. He also developed franchise systems for franchisors. He also developed Bylaws, Rules and Regulations of Franchisee Associations.

Real Estate Experience:
During 42 years of practicing law, Attorney Barr handled literally thousands of closings representing buyer, sellers and lenders in both residential and commercial real estate transactions. As counsel to the Gasoline and Automotive Service Dealers of America, Attorney Barr has represented hundreds of buyers and/or sellers of gasoline service stations and convenience stores.

He is presently Vice-Chair of the Connecticut Underground Storage Tank Reimbursement Board and the only Member who has been on the Board since its inception in 1990. As such, Mr. Barr has unique experience in the law regarding underground gasoline storage tanks.

Family Law:
Over his 42 years of the practice of law, Attorney Barr has represented numerous clients regarding Family Law issues, inclusive of divorce, legal separation, child custody and child support. Having four of his own children, Attorney Barr attempts to balance the roles of an attorney and a parent in these delicate issues.
